Will I be able to get discounts?
Bundling discounts are our favorite, because they affect every policy in the household. So an auto/home bundling discount gets a discount both the auto insurance and the homeowners insurance. Add an umbrella policy and all three policies get an additional discount. Insure your business with the same carrier and all of the policies get yet another discount. Have a boat, motorcycle, RV or ATV? Insure it with the rest of the policies and all policies get another discount! In addition, there are discounts available for some professions (even if you have retired) like law enforcement, or are a doctor, dentist, pharmacist, pharmacist assistant, RN, firefighter and many more. There are even discounts for having a degree in some areas, so be sure to let us know what your degree is in if you have one. There are discounts that are specific to a particular policy type, like the discount for the SIgnal safe driving program, or the Good Student Discount that both apply to auto insurance policy or the non smoker discount for homeowner policies. So it’s highly likely that you’ll get at least one discount and quite possibly multiple discounts.

What does a standard homeowners insurance policy cover?
Coverages –
Dwelling This is what the valuation program predicts it will cost to rebuild your home after a total loss. Without any endorsements, this is the maximum amount that your policy will cover to replace the home.
Separate Structures Any building that is not physically attached to the home gets covered under this section. Detached garages, sheds, pool houses, barns, fences, and so on.
Personal Property Covers your personal belongings – furniture, clothing, electronics, etc. High-value items such as jewelry, collectibles, art, or firearms will need to be noted specifically on the policy.
Loss of Use If you’re unable to live in your home after a loss while repairs are taking place, this coverage will provide for the costs of your temporary relocation.
Personal Liability If a lawsuit is filed against you, this coverage may help you cover your lawyer, legal expenses and settlement costs. We highly recommend that your liability coverage exceeds the value of your home, as if you lose the suit – they will go after your assets. We also suggest an umbrella policy to make sure you are best protected against a liability claim.
Medical Payments to Others This coverage helps pay for small injuries to your guests. Though the amount is limited, this can help prevent escalation to a lawsuit.
Recommended Endorsements
Guaranteed Replacement Cost Regardless of the cost to rebuild, repair, or replace your home, the insurance carrier will pay for it.
Limited Matching In the event the insurance carrier is unable to find repair materials identical to your siding or roofing, they will spend up to $30,000 to replace the undamaged material around the damaged area so that the entire side will match.
Identity Fraud Covers expenses related to Identity Fraud up to $30,000
Residential Glass Coverage This removes the deductible for glass damage to your home (windows, sliding glass doors, French doors, skylights, etc) and does not count glass claims when determining your premium. Thus, glass damage is repaired at no cost to you, and there is no increase to your premium as a result of filing these claims.
Service Line Covers physical damage to covered service lines that is the direct result of a service line failure (e.g., a leak, break, collapse, etc.), as well as any necessary excavation costs to repair the damage. Covered service lines are the underground piping or wiring located on the property for which homeowners are legally liable for repair or replacement (e.g., the sewer line from house to street, the water line from house to street/meter, power lines or electrical wiring, and communication or data transmission wiring).
Endorsements
Extended Replacement Cost The insurance carrier will rebuild your home for up to 110%, 125%, or 150% its dwelling limit.
Tree/Shrub Covers removal or replacement of damaged or downed trees/shrubs due to wind or hail.
Extended Sewer/Drain Backup Protects you in the event that there is a failure of French drains/sump pump/septic tank, or a backup of your sewer/drain system that is caused by something outside the footprint of the home. This optional coverage is adjustable between $5,000 and $50,000.
How do you help a business owner determine the right business insurance policy for him or her?
We begin with a review of the business, it’s assets and it’s revenue. Working with the business owner, we identify risks that may need to be protected against. Most business owners have things like materials, finished products and tools. They have may an office or shop that would need to be rebuilt or repaired after a loss. Even if they rent the space, typically the landlord’s policy will simply repair the interior walls, floor and ceiling. Anything else, like counters, benches etc, is often up to the tenant to replace. We review employees, if any, and recommend appropriate options for protecting the business against claims of unfair hiring/firing, employee dishonesty and so on. Once we have identified the risks, we work with the business owner to determine which ones need to be insured against through the business policy and which risks the business owner is comfortable handling without adding them to the policy. Businesses grow and change, and so we also offer annual reviews to be sure the policy still fits the business and suggest changes as appropriate.
How do you determine how much insurance I need?
The short answer? We don’t. We are consultants, here to work with you in determining your insurance needs. We’ll provide data, research and offer recommendations but at the end of the day, you are in the driver’s seat.
How do you help me save?
Through bundling and other discounts wherever available, and by making sure your policies are written to insure the things that matter and limiting or removing coverage for things that are irrelevant or unimportant to you.
